Diveline's Marine Education Program is BACK for September's School Holidays. Join Marine Biologist Paul Sorensen and Diveline Instructor Rita and see what amazing creatures and plants have made Port Philip Bay their home!
Activities include:
-Scuba Diving and Snorkelling
-Collecting seaweed specimens and creating a marine herbarium
-Fish Identification
-Dip netting and examining specimens under a microscope
-Sea Dragon Search
-Collecting invasive marine pests
-Using iNaturalist
-Freshwater health check at Kananook Creek using Waterbug App

Prerequisite: Interest in Marine Biology & Ocean Conservation
Ages 10 years and Over
Open Water Scuba Diving Certification or Snorkelling experience

School Holiday Program (6 Days)

Week 1 - Monday 18 September - Wednesday 20 September
Week 2 - Monday 25 September - Wednesday 27 September

PADI Underwater Naturalist Diver $100
PADI Fish Identification Diver $100

After checking the weather today, the plan for Week One of the Marine Education Program is
Monday 08th January 2024
09:00 am Meet Diveline Scuba Centre
09:30 am Drive to Frankston Pier
10:00 am Dive Frankston Pier – Invasive Species Collection
We will identify invasive species and remove northern pacific seastars and Wakame Seaweed.
12:30 pm Back to Shop for Lunch
01:00 pm Sort and count invasive species
Collect epifauna from wakame seaweed from Port Phillip Bay and catalogue different species
03:00 pm Finish
Tuesday 09th January 2024
09:00 am Meet: Flinders Pier
09:30 am Dive Flinders Pier – Collect data on weedy seadragons
We will photograph weedy seadragons and submit them to Seadragon Search
We will collect seaweeds from the shoreline and bring back to the shop.
12:30 pm Back to Shop for Lunch
01:00 pm Create a herbarium with seaweeds
Collect epifauna from seaweeds from Western Port Bay and catalogue different species
03:00 pm Finish
Wednesday 10th January 2024
09:00 am Meet: Blairgowrie Pier
09:30 am Dive Blairgowrie Pier – Collect data on nudibranchs
We will photograph nudibranchs and submit them to Nudibranch Census
12:30 pm Back to Shop for Lunch
01:00 pm Upload nudi photos to inaturalists
Work on National Geographic Video
03:00 pm Finish
