The Fun Part
You’ll find you enjoy your dives even more when you recognise the creatures that you see. The fun part about this course is you can use the skills you learn on every scuba diving vacation because once you learn the main fish families and characteristics it will help you decipher the species you see all over the world.
For example, a butterfly fish in the Caribbean has a similar shape to a butterfly fish in Southeast Asia, but their colours and markings maybe wildly different. If you know what fish family it belongs to, it becomes much easier to look up the local name or at least be able to intelligently ask the local scuba instructor what you saw. That works better than asking about a “yellow thingy with a funny tail fin.”
Diveline also participate in the annual fish count under the piers to count the species in our environment. This way we can get more information about the various species thriving or declining.
What You Learn
During two dives you gain hands-on (okay, eyes-on) experience in looking for and identifying the fascinating fish you see underwater. You’ll learn :
- How to identify characteristics of local fish families and species
- Fish survey techniques and strategies
- How to practice fish identification dive planning, organization and procedures

Note
- Diveline has the right to assess personal snorkelling gear and scuba equipment to ensure suitability.
- If you do not pass all the skills on any day, you will not be able to continue onto the next day. You will be asked to repeat the day at an additional cost.
- Courses need a minimum number of students to run.
- Courses are weather dependant.
- Courses can be cancelled and postponed due to any of the above reasons and others determined by Diveline Scuba Centre.
Cancellation Policy
- Cancellation of course will result in a $100 administration fee and is not refundable.
- Once PADI E-Learning has been activated, $250 of course fees is non-refundable, due to you having access to this E-learning forthgoing.
- Cancellation of course within 72 hours results in 100% of the course costs, due to bookings for pools, boats, instructors and divemasters.
- Cancellation of boat dives within 72 hours results in non-refundable boat costs.
- Each postponement of course to another date will incur a $50 admin fee.
- Please, note that if the course is booked and delayed for more than 12 months and the course cost increases, additional cost is payable.
