DIVELINE PADI Open Water Diver Course
The DIVELINE PADI Open Water Course is the first course to attain your personal scuba diving licence.
Your first certified scuba diving course involves home based online theory, pool session, and 4 ocean dives, including one boat dive to 18 metres. Scuba diving in Melbourne has some unique diving conditions, requiring different skills. Our professional dive team is dedicated to making you a better diver from the start of your scuba diving journey.
Scuba Diving in Melbourne opens up some the world's best diving. Melbourne has two large bays connected to Bass Strait. Melbourne offers a fantastic variety of dive sites for you to explore including reefs, shipwrecks, caves and the chance to see some endemic and stunning marine life. Most of the marine life is endemic to the Southern coast of Australia, it is know adaptly named the Great Southern Reef. So take the first step!
Prerequisites:
- Minimum of 10 years of age for junior open water
- Minimum of 15 years of age for open water course
- Need to be comfortable in the water, swim 200m and tread water for 10 minutes
- Need to be in good physical and mental health
- A Diver scuba diving medical is Highly Recommended. A medical is required is you answer certain questions on the PADI medical Form. To be safe visit a scuba diving doctor at https://www.spums.org.au/.
- Your own mask, snorkel, boots and fins (receive 10% off purchases at Diveline whilst booked on course, except those on sale already)
The Diveline PADI Open Water Scuba Diver Course consists of three main phases:
- Knowledge Development (online, independent study / in the classroom) to understand basic principles of scuba diving. Approximately 6 or more hours of study.
- Confined Water Dives to learn basic scuba skills. Need to pass 24 skills
- Four Open Water Dives (3 Shore Dives + 1 Boat Dive) to use your skills and explore the underwater world
On completion of the course, you will be qualified to dive anywhere in the world to a depth of 18 metres.
Diveline PADI Open Water Divers are qualified to:
- Dive a maximum depth of 18 metres, or the deepest as per your training.
- Juniors 10-12, Maximum depth 12 metres
- Obtain air fills, rent or purchase scuba equipment and participate in dive activities as long as properly supervised
- Continue dive training by completing the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver certification and taking certain specialty diver courses
Costs Include:
- PADI Standard Open Water e-learning.
- Use of Rental Scuba Equipment, (where required) including BCD (Buoyancy Control Device), Regulators, Computer, Weights, Cylinders and Air Fills
- Pool Entry Fees
- Professional PADI Scuba Diving Instructor for 3 Days
- PADI Certification e-Card, most accepted diving licence in the world. Life-long licence.
- One Boat Dive to 18 metres
Cost does NOT include:
- Snorkelling Gear, being appropriate scuba diving Mask, Snorkel, Fins and Boots
- Hoods and Gloves
- Travel to other locations used during the undertaking of the course
"Whilst booked on course you are entitled to 10% off most purchases at Diveline Scuba Centre or choose from one of our snorkelling gear packages. Basic snorkelling gear equipment can be hired for $40 a day, if available."
Course Structure
Day Description Duration
Pre Day 1 PADI E-Learning (Independant Study) Approximately 6 - 10 hours
Day 1 Theory & Confined Water Dives Approximately 7:30 am to 5:00 pm
Day 2 2 x Open Water Shore Dives Approximately 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Day 3 1 x Open Water Boat Dive & 1 x Shore Dive Approximately 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
Courses Runs:
Weekend Only Courses run either the first two weekends of the month OR the third and forth weekend of the month.
- Day 1 Saturday (1st or 3rd Saturday of the month),
- Day 2 Sunday (1st or 3rd Sunday of the month),
- Day 3 Saturday (2nd or 4th Saturday of the month).
Consecutive Day courses run three consecutive days during the week. During peak season there are more mid week courses available. Eg
- Day 1 Thursday
- Day 2 Friday
- Day 3 Saturday
Please note
- If you do not pass all the skills on the first day, you will not be able to continue onto the second day. You will need to repeat the first day at an additional cost.
- Also if you do not complete the required skills on the second day you will not be able to complete day three. You will need to repeat the second day at an additional cost.
- Same as the third and final day. If you do not perform the skills satisfactorily, you will not pass the course and you will need to repeat day three at an additional cost.
Cancellation Policy:
- Cancellation of course will result in a $100 administration fee and is not refundable.
- Once PADI e-Learning has been activated, $250 of course fees is non-refundable, due to you having access to this e-learning forthgoing.
- Cancellation of course within 72 hours results is 100% of the course costs, due to bookings for pools, boats, instructors and divemasters.
- Cancellation of boat dives within 72 hours results in non-refundable boat costs.
- Each postponement of course to another date will incur a $50 admin fee.
- If course is booked and delayed for more than 12 months and the course cost increases, additional cost is payable.
